No referral needed to access physical therapy services!

Physical therapy is a primary access point for health care services, although some extended health care providers require a referral from a physician for reimbursement.  Check with your provider for further details.

Alberta Health Services (AHS):

Some clients are eligible for limited coverage under this program. Eligibility is determined following the assessment by using the Determination of Need tool.  Individuals who have had a fracture or surgery, who are determined to be “low income” or are on any government subsidy programs will qualify for additional treatments.

Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Insurance – Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols:

There are two protocols regarding treatment after an automotive accident: “Under Protocol” and “Outside Protocol.” To be Under Protocol, you must complete and submit an AB-1 form to your insurance company within 10 business days of the date of your accident (find the AB1 form HERE).  Services under protocol, provided to clients within 90 days of an accident, are billed directly to your insurance provider.

If you don’t submit your AB-1 forms within 10 business days, you are considered “Outside Protocol” and your automotive injury adjuster will decide whether direct billing will be authorized or if you’ll need to pay for your physiotherapy treatment and submit your receipts to your insurance company.

We are also able to direct bill the following extended health care providers through the Telus Health Portal:

  • Alberta Blue Cross
  • Medavie Blue Cross
  • Chamber of Commerce Group Insurance
  • Cowan
  • Desjardins
  • First Canadian
  • Great West Life
  • Greenshield (includes Wawanesa Life, Encon, etc.)

  • Group Source
  • IA Insurance Group
  • Johnson
  • Johnston Group Inc
  • Manion
  • Manulife

Please know that the amount of coverage you receive depends on your benefit plan and, in some cases, your injury. We are happy to help you determine the amount of coverage you’ll receive for your treatments. Please be aware that you are responsible for any treatment costs not covered by your plan.
